VOV.VN - After more than 13 years of construction, the Nhon – Hanoi railway station metro line project has completed 99.54% of its workload (Phase I), and is preparing to open to traffic later this year or early next year.
The dual track rail metro line has a total length of 12.5km stretching from Nhon to Hanoi railway station. The line passes through eight elevated stations and four underground stations.
The project which is expected to facilitate public transport connectivity and enhance access in six districts has been delayed seven times due to different reasons, including cost overruns.
To date, 99.54% of the workload has been completed, including the installation of equipment at eight elevated stations.
Contractors and investors are sprucing up preparations for the inauguration of the project in late 2023 or early 2024.
Engineers have carried out test-runs to ensure security and safety of the metro line when it is officially put into operation.
“We strive to put the project – first phase – into operation in late 2023 or early 2024 if conditions are met,” says Le Trung Hieu, deputy head of the Hanoi Urban Railway Management Board (MRB).
“Currently, 99.7% of the entire bidding package of phase 1, from station S1 to S8, has been completed,” adds Hieu.
The ticket system, with 98.3% of completed workload, has been undergoing a test-run, awaiting an official appraisal and approval.
The boarding pass on the Nhon - Hanoi station route can be used for all other railway routes such as Cat Linh - Ha Dong line or bus routes.
All the equipment installed at stations has been imported frm Europe, mostly from France, according to the MRB official.
Station S8 located opposite University of Transport and Thu Le Zoo is the last station of the elevated section.
This is a transit station which is connected to many bus routes in the future.
The project has a total investment of more than VND13.826 trillion, an increase of VND1.916 trillion compared to the original cost approved.
In a dispatch dated August 7, 2023, the Prime Minister has requested the Hanoi People’s Committee to remove all obstacles so as to put Phase 1 of the project in to operation in late 2023.
