VOV.VN - A high-ranking Vietnamese delegation led by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his spouse paid an official visit to the Republic of Korea from June 30 to July 3 at the invitation of RoK Prime Minister Han Duck-soo and his wife.
The Vietnamese high-ranking delegation led by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his spouse arrive in Seoul on June 30 afternoon (local time), beginning an official visit to the Republic of Korea (RoK). This is the first official visit by a senior Vietnamese leader after the two countries upgrade their bilateral relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership in 2022.
PM Chinh and his entourage receive warm welcome at Seongnam Air Base in Seoul. The Vietnamese Prime Minister is invited to step onto the podium of honour for the welcoming ceremony.
The Vietnamese Government chief holds talks with his RoK counterpart Han Duck-soo in Seoul on July 2, during which PM Han applauds Vietnam's crucial role in the RoK’s external policy, including the Indo-Pacific Strategy and the Korea-ASEAN Solidarity Initiative (KASI).
After the talks, both leaders issue a joint press release and witness the signing of nine cooperation agreements between Vietnamese and Korean ministries and agencies in economy, trade, investment, education, development cooperation, startup ecosystems, competition, and consumer protection.
At a meeting with Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol in Seoul on July 2, the two leaders commit to fostering deeper economic ties, aiming for a bilateral trade value of US$100 billion by 2025 and US$150 billion by 2030. In such spirit, PM Chinh proposes joint efforts to attract Korean investments in key sectors like semiconductors, digital transformation, green technology and biotechnology.
Pledging mutual support at global and regional forums of mutual concern, Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol and PM Chinh voice their consent to strengthen collaboration within ASEAN-RoK and Mekong-RoK mechanisms. President Yoon praises Vietnam's excellent role as the coordinator for ASEAN-RoK relations and calls for its support for elevating the ASEAN-RoK relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership.
At a meeting with Speaker of the National Assembly of the RoK Woo Won-shik on July 2, both sides agree to share experience in building laws and institutions for sustainable development and digital and green transformation, while continuing to enhance the role of the two countries' legislatures in supporting the two governments to beef up bilateral cooperation, including completing the goal of bringing trade turnover to US$100 billion in 2025.
The Vietnamese Government leader delivers a policy speech at the Seoul National University, in which he affirms Vietnam is willing to cooperate more closely with the RoK, and further develop the bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership, for happiness of the two peoples and for peace, cooperation and development in the region and the world.
The PM expects that the two countries would explore and promote new frontiers of cooperation in the fields of industry, energy, finance, information technology, and medicine, among others, during a working breakfast with leaders of the RoK’s major corporations in Seoul on July 1.
At Vietnam-RoK businesss forum held in Seoul on July 1, in the presence of the Vietnamese Prime Minister, ministries, agencies and localities of the two countries exchange 23 cooperation documents in fields such as investment, trade, energy transition, big data, biotechnology, industrial park construction, semiconductor technology, pharmacy, aviation, logistics, information technology, mechanical engineering, smart city model, and real estates.
The RoK is ready to cooperate with Vietnam in the field of semiconductors and artificial intelligence through specific projects to be deployed, RoK experts and scientists told Vietnamese leader during a working lunch in Seoul on July 1.
At a joint labour cooperation forums in Seoul on July 1, the PM suggests that the RoK continue to take the lead in training international human resources, including Vietnamese workers, to promote human resource cooperation, bringing benefits for both sides. He also proposes that the RoK send highly qualified experts and managers to work in Vietnam; continue to increase the quota to receive Vietnamese workers under the Employment Permit Program (EPS) in shipbuilding, agriculture, and fisheries; and expand new occupations that the RoK needs, such as information technology, nursing and services.
During a forum on culture-tourism cooperation, PM Chinh witnesses the exchange of 10 memoranda of understanding on culture, trade and tourism cooperation between agencies and businesses of the two countries, including one between the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism and the Korea Tourism Organisation, and four between the national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines and its partners.
The PM on July 2 hosts Lee Jae Yong, chairman of Samsung, stating the Vietnamese Government’s readiness to support and offer optimal conditions for Samsung to launch business investment activities in an effective and sustainable manner in the country.
The Vietnamese Government chief meets with leaders of several Korean conglomerates including CJ Group, POSCO Holdings, the Korea Development Bank (KDB), LG Display and Daewoo E&C, in Seoul on July 3, with the latter all expressing their desire to expand investments in Vietnam.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh also visits Samsung's semiconductor cluster in Gyeonggi province, attends a ceremony of Vietnam Airlines to mark 30 years of its direct flights to the RoK, meets with Korean friends who have made great contributions to Vietnam-RoK relations, and a Vietnamese-Korean multicultural family in Osan city.
