VOV.VN - Philippe Troussier, head coach of the Vietnamese national men’s football team, has officially announced a 33-player squad for upcoming friendly matches against China and the Republic of Korea (RoK) in October.

The squad consists of several outstanding names from Cong An Hanoi FC, including Quang Hai, Van Luan, Van Toan, Tan Tai, and Van Hau.

Most notably, many footballers from the Vietnam U23 squad have been called up to the senior side, such as Luong Duy Cuong, Khuat Van Khang, Le Van Do, Bui Vi Hao, and Nguyen Van Tung.

The local players are scheduled to gather together on October 2 in anticipation of friendly matches which will be played on upcoming FIFA Days.

They will then take part in a training camp in China where they will play away games against China on October 10, before facing the Republic of Korea on October 17.

By being ranked among the world’s top 100 and Asia’s top 20, the Vietnamese national team won’t be required to take part in a play-off round in order to progress through to the group stage of qualifiers for both the 2026 FIFA World Cup and the 2027 AFC Asian Cup.

Moving forward, the team are scheduled to compete in World Cup qualifiers from mid-November to June, 2024.

Vietnam have been drawn in Group F alongside the Philippines, Iraq, and the winner of the upcoming play-off match between Indonesia and Brunei. Vietnam’s opening match against the Philippines is set to take place on November 16.
